The purpose of the Young Volunteers Group is to provide opportunities for young people to participate in something they enjoy, which has a positive impact on their personal development and the local community.

The group is aimed at young people aged 11 plus who have some contact with the Youth Centre and have demonstrated commitment, enthusiasm and motivation towards volunteering.

Most of the group are involved as volunteers at our Junior Club every Friday evening, however, they have also taken a lead role in planning, organising and running the following activities and events:

Fundraising event for the Children in Need Appeal.

Operation Christmas Child, Shoebox Appeal.

Pelaw Youth Centre Christmas Fete.

Comic Relief Fundraising Event.

First Aid Training Course.

Weekend Training Residential.

Pelaw Youth Centre Garden Project.

Four young people from the group have been awarded Millennium Volunteers Certificates and other members plan to link in with The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

Young Volunteers

Young Volunteers is great fun,

we went to Kielder for the sun.

Stayed up all night long,

in the morning played Bing bong.

If we go on trips out,

Mike tries hard not to shout.

Our job is hard work,

but we never ever shirk.

We are planning to fundraise,

for this work we get some praise.

To our mentors, thanks a lot,

making sure we don't lose the plot.

All this stops us being bored,

and we hope to get an award.

We are happy when others come,

becuase they make it more fun.

So if you want to gain new skills, have fun and meet new people.

Come along to our Tuesday meeting.
